Paul Eastham's RV-9A

8 hours: I went ahead and drilled the right HS skin, took everything apart, deburred and dimpled everything. Lots of work. Set up to start countersinking the spars. Had a bit of a scare when I noticed the countersinks on the other spars were too big for the test dimple piece... eventually discovered I hadn't dimpled the test piece fully. The other spars are c-sunk a tad too deep but I'm sure it doesn't matter. The misaligned holes I was worried about yesterday came out ok, after drilling and dimpling they are practically round. I heard back from Van's about the suspected error in the kit:

I think you may be correct, I'll get the engineering dept to check
the punch plot. You could fix this, either with an oops rivet or even
with a AD3 if you start with a slightly longer one to allow for the
sideways expansion as the hole will be slightly oversize when
drilled.

There isn't a quick way to list tolerances in the kit, each part is
different. Any errors we have to take on a case by case basis, so if
you're not sure just contact us.
