Paul Eastham's RV-9A

12/24/2003

5 hours: After further consideration I decided to bite the bullet and drill out all the rivets on the trim tab to see if I could get the spar to fit better. After all that, it still didn't fit well at all and has a good bulge in it. I decided to set it aside and talk to Van's about it after the holidays.

Back to the rudder then. All that was left to do here was to pull some pop rivets, rivet the trailing edge, and bend the leading edge. Here is the trailing edge riveting in progress.

The rivets themselves came out good...

It's nice and straight, but one side has a bit of puckering around each rivet...I didn't countersink the edge spacer quite enough. After ruining the first one I was a little gun shy. Oh well, it is just a minor cosmetic thing...

The leading edge is curled around a broomstick and then pop riveted together. The top one went well but the bottom two required quite a bit of bending by hand.

Almost done...
