Paul Eastham's RV-9A

7 hours: Well, I fluted the last four right-wing ribs last night. To attach the outboard one you need to screw some angle onto it so that it can still rest on the wing stand -- the rib goes right at the very edge of the spar. The directions are pretty minimal on this, here is what I did:

Here is the wing with all the main ribs. I put a nose rib on there too to get a feel for the overall size. Next step is to drill the ribs on, then prime and rivet them to the spar.

I figure I should finish the empennage...I received a replacement trailing edge for the right elevator, so here I am drilling it on.

Countersinking the little wedge...oh, the pain... if I ever see another one of these things it'll be too soon. I tried doing it by hand this time instead of in the drill press. It wasn't much different, it was still a major pain. Results were inconsistent and very, very slow to attain. I must have spent three hours on this guy, clamping it for each hole, then repeating the process on the other side. Then going back and redoing some that weren't deep enough. Argh!

The UPS guy gave me a good break by delivering some new toys, a HVLP paint gun and a pneumatic cut-off tool. Can't wait to fire these guys up.
